Baby Babble 101

Babies coo or make vowel sounds first and then next comes hard sounds like m,b,g.

When a baby’s babbling includes hard sounds like b,m,g it means he’s learning to maneuver the mouth and tongue.

Coos are airy noises and are made in the throat while vowel or hard sounds are more challenging because they require coordination between tongue and lips.

Babies begin to coo around two months and they make hard sounds somewhere between 4 - 7 months. By 9 months your baby will string sounds together like ma-ma and da-da.

When your baby ‘talks’ to you, talk back. These conversations encourage speech and social skills.
